Card Levitation - Learn to Levitate a Card
Want to learn how to do an impromptu, easy card levitation that
requires absolutely no materials?
You're in luck.
Nick Bielski
, a close-up performer with seven years of
experience, recently submitted his newest creation,
EZ-LEV
, for
distribution
exclusively
to subscribers of the
Ellusionist.com eZine
.
It's a VERY simple but VERY effective way to levitate a card -
try it.
Effect:
Placing a card on his outstretched hand, the magician asks the
audience to focus on the card, and concentrate to direct their
mental
energy
onto the card.
After several seconds, the card begins to
slowly
move. It is then seen
to rise-- smoothly yet slowly -- as if the directed energy of the
spectators is causing the card to
levitate
.
Method:
Although VERY simple in technique (the best illusions always are), the
effect will
no doubt
fool audiences of all ages. However, be careful not
to
overuse
the effect. Before you read this description, go and get a
normal playing card.
Instructions:
- Place the middle of the card at the base of your first finger as shown
in piture 1. This position will serve as the starting/resting point for the
illusion.
- To create the illusion of the card
levitating
, extend the fingers
outward but leave the first finger joints in their original position. It will
now look like the card is levitating.
Practice the bend in the fingers and keeping that first joint as high in
the air as you can get it.
Think of performing this as a small flourish during one of your
routines... but you
MAY
get a bigger reaction than you thought you
would.
- To end the sequence, slowly close your fingers back in and hand the
card out for examination. You're left completely clean! You may think
you need to be double jointed to make it work but that's not true...
experiment and work with it - you'll see!
