Where there is insufficientpublished research, consensus of experts in the field hasbeen utilized to provide guidelines specific toconventional practice. The encouragement of researchand frequent revision and updating are necessary ifguidelines are to remain relevant and useful.The Steering Committee acknowledges, with sincereappreciation, the many practising health professionalsand others who contributed advice and information tothis endeavour.The guidelines outlined herein are part of a series thathas been developed over a period of years under theguidance of the Steering Committee on Infection ControlGuidelines.Infection Control Guidelines for HandWashing, Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilization inHealth Carepresents an overview and providesrecommendations to assist in preventing the transmissionof infection in health care facilities.
