The difficultyof this version should be 'hard' or maybe 'expert'. Green (rampart) is a slightly easierstarting position than Red (dungeon).It was created and tested under version 2.1 ofthe Armageddon's Blade Expansion of the Heroes III game.The map is liberally sprinkled with signs and events, mostly intended toexplain how the HOMM elements nearby correspond to elements in the real world- that is to say, flavour. However, some strategical information will bemixed in. If you don't like reading, this may not be your map. If you like amap where the AI has a real advantage to start with, again, this may not be your map.You do need to pay close attention to the messages, as there are some complex taskswhich you will need to complete to win the map. The HOMM map islaid out roughly according to this jpeg.The map was made for the Astral-Wizard map competition in August 2000.The theme is 'city' ... Canberra has been described as a forest withhouses underneath; it is often called the 'Bush Capital'. It has apopulation of 300,000 people, distributed over about 30km, divided intofive or six main regions, linked by 100km/hr highways. There are no trainsor trams, but there is an adequate bus service.Major areas of note within the city include the Australian National University andthe Australian Defence Force Academy.The Australian Government has mastered the art of Wedge Politics. For Example,it is widely believed that between 60 and 90 percent of the Australian votingpopulation are in favour of Australia becoming a republic (instead of a constitutionalmonarchy, borrowing England's Queen). However, at the November 1999 referendum,proponents of the 'popularly elected president' model persuaded voters to voteagainst the 'government-appointed president' model, with the result that wehaven't got a republic at all!This example explains why - despite four players trying to abolish the GST -their efforts will not be successful until all regions are united behind asingle leader.SPOILERS: WARNING!!! This means completinga few Quests.All the pieces of the Angelic Alliance are on the map ... in three different players' territories.The shackles of war should help anyone who wants to assemble the Alliance ... it isexpected that this will not happen until very late in the game, at which stage it isexpected to accelerate the mop-up phase.The AI castle nearest your starting castle is of the same type and is supplied with thesame external dwellings. Capturing that area first will enable you to grow up toten dragons per week.Be systematic about capturing creature dwellings, in order to avoid a long mopup phase later.More detailed Spoilers:SPOILERS: WARNING!!! Every player startsin an enclosed area with a tent of the appropriate colour. The Black and Whitetents are both in the central interchange.The Prison at the University contains an hero with the Town-Portal spell andexpert Scholarship. The Conflux town contains the Aurora - but you will have to workquite hard to get there! Even then, however, you won't learneither Dimension Door or Fly.(If you learn DD or Fly from a Scholar, please *don't* use them; the map is designedto play without these spells. The Angel-Wings are present in Parliament House (i.e. late-game!).If you get DD or Fly any other way, please send me the savegame so I can debug my map!)If you're really in trouble, try Canberra.wlk for a strategy.
