2 What is
PhoneControl
?
PhoneControl
is a User Interface to control the mobile phone of your CarPC via the serial
interface. It supports as well Bluetooth interfaces as cable interfaces.
At the very first start of the application, it will read out the Phonebook, store it locally and
display the contained names and phone numbers.
To place a call, simply select the according name from the list and press the key with the
desired phone number.
A possibly playing Media Player (WMP or Winamp) will be paused until the call has finished.
On incoming calls
PhoneControl
will identify the caller and display the caller’s properties on
the screen. If necessary, a playing Media Player will be paused also.
During the call, the CarPC takes over the function of a Headset, if the configuration of your
CarPC is able to. Your CarPC becomes a Headset device.
Incoming SMS messages will be managed and displayed on the screen. If needed, you may
also compose answers and send them. For this, you will need a connected keyboard.
Although
PhoneControl
is designed for a Touch Screen display, you none the less can control
it by using a mouse or a keyboard. This should never be done by driving.
To meet your personal taste you’re able to customize the application just as you like.
Not only the backgrounds and colours but also the position and size of each element can be
adapted (more in chapter
.

3 What do I need to run
PhoneControl
?
PhoneControl
needs a few more components to run it:
•
Microsoft Windows XP / Windows 2000
•
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
•
Microsoft DirectX version 8.0 and above
•
Microsoft Speech API (SAPI) version 5.1 (optional)
•
Bluetooth driver (optional)
Those components have to be installed on you CarPC, before you start the installation of
PhoneControl
. All those components (except the Operating System) can be found and
downloaded from the Internet.
The Bluetooth driver usually will be provided by your BT-Adapter manufacturer. Therefore is
might be useful to look at the manufacturers Webpage from time to time and get newer
versions when they are available.
Beside the software, you also need a mobile phone and a specific cable to connect your
mobile phone to the CarPC, in the case that you’re not using Bluetooth.
3.1 Supported mobile phones
The following mobile phones are tested and supported by the application.
•
SonyEricsson T610
•
SonyEricsson T630
•
SonyEricsson Z600
•
Nokia 6100 (with slight limitations)
•

•
Nokia 6310(i)
•
Nokia 7650 und 3650 (with strong limitations)
•
Siemens SL45 (with slight limitations)

functionality may be restricted using older phones. You get the best results by using the
SonyEricsson T6xx series.

has been tested and works proper with these Bluetooth adapters:
